The Kindle undergoes an indexing process each time you add a new ebook to your collection. At times it may affect the speed at which it turns the pages of an ebook and even slow the device down. Although there isn't a button to press to speed up the indexing process, you can check out these tips to troubleshoot. Just a note, you will probably find that most of the books that have an indexing process problem are non-Amazon books.
At night, before you go to bed, plug your Kindle in, leave it on and let it go through its processes overnight. Turn on WhisperNet as well, just in case you have software updates or ebooks that need to be downloaded. This will give your Kindle the time to "catch up".

You can perform a search, and the result page will show the ebooks that haven't been indexed. You can manually index the books by clicking on the first book. You won't be able to read during the indexing and it can be time consuming. You may want to do it overnight.
If you have loaded an ebook with a corrupt file, the Kindle will still try to download it and get stuck. This can be a real drain on your battery. If you want to find the ebook that is causing this problem, delete all of your ebooks, and then re-load them one at a time. Allow the Kindle to index each book until you find the file that is making your Kindle function poorly.
If worse comes to worse, you can perform a "hard reset". Here are the steps to do so:
• Ensure that the battery is charged
• Remove the charger cord from the device
• Open the back of the Kindle
• Located under the word "reset" is a small hole
• Open a small paper clip
• Insert the paper clip into the hole and press for 10 seconds
Indexing is a process that your Kindle must complete. If you have tried the above troubleshooting tips, and it is still not doing this task, it is time to give Kindle Customer Service a call.
